The project consists of two sections, a power supply and the networking with an embedded system. Both sections are essential for the project to operate, but were designed independently from one another based on the specifications and requirements of the major components used. As such, below are the lists of parts used for each section of this project. All the components can be purchased from SparkFun (www.sparkfun.com), more common components can be purchased from EPO (www.epohouston.com).
Power Supply Parts:
• Bread Board
• 3.3 volt regulator (LM7833)
• 500mA PTC
• 47uF Electrolyte Capacitor x 2
• 0.1uF Ceramic Capacitor x 2
• Power switch
• 1N4001 Protection Diode
• Red LED
• Green LED
• 220 Ohm Resistor
• 4.7k Ohm Resistor
• 9V Wall Wart
• Barrel Jack
• Wire
Ethernet and Microcontroller Parts:
• Bread Board
• ATMega168 Microcontroller
• EN28J60 Ethernet Controller
• Mini Momentary Push Button Switch (SPST)
• 0.1uF Ceramic Capacitors x 2
• 10k Ohm Resistors x 3
• USBtinyISP AVR Programmer
• Ethernet cable (if using a switch)/Crossover cable (if connecting directly)
• Wire
Attached is the full schematic for this part of the project. It includes the power supply as well as the Ethernet and microcontroller connections. The embedded system can be connected directly to a computer using a cross-over cable or with an Ethernet cable to a switch the computer is also connected to.
